Up to 5-6 years ago, when the shower curtains were looking dingy
& the soap scum was starting to take over, I'd just replace it with a brand new one.
That was until my mom told me a little trick.
She said to buy a heavy duty shower curtain {they only cost a few dollars more}
& when it's gets grimy or mildewy to throw it in the wash machine!
I would've never thought!
So, I did just that & amazingly, I haven't replaced a shower curtain in a long, long time.
Here's what I do:
Place the shower curtain in the washing machine that's filled with HOT water.
Add 1/2 cup of liquid bleach {this kills mold & mildew} & a 1/2 cup of detergent.
{I make my own laundry soap which I highly recommend ... if you need the recipe, click here.}
Let the shower curtain soak for 20-30 minutes.
After it has soaked, I throw in a couple towels, or some socks or t-shirts
{only use white ones because of the bleach} & start the washer on gentle cycle.
The towels balance out the washer & helps to keep the curtain from wrinkling as badly.
That's it.
It's that simple.
Immediately remove from the washer & let drip dry.
Hang it on the clothesline ... or place in the bathtub ... just never put the shower curtain in the dryer.
I take mine up to the bathroom, hang it back on the curtain hooks,
& dry off the side that is touching the fabric curtain.
The wrinkles fall out, the curtain drips dry & you are back in business with a clean shower curtain!
Don't you just love stretching your buck?!

ReplyDeleteI saw another post this week on cleaning your shower curtains and this is how I've always done it. Works like a charm!! Thanks for linking up at my Pin Me Linky Party.
ReplyDeleteIt sure does! Thanks for the comment & hosting the party =)
ReplyDeleteI am stopping over from Raising Homemakers - thanks for the great tip! Isn't it wonderful when we can use one of our 'servants' (i.e. washing machine) to do the dirty work for us?
ReplyDeleteYou are so right =) Thank you for stopping by!
